Our first brave soul to read a book aloud to the class was Jackson G! He read a funny Sponge Bob book which the class totally enjoyed. Check out a quick clip of his read aloud. Way to go, Jackson! Meet the GREEN TEAM!Our walking field trip to the Food Pantry was a success! The rain held off and the sun came out as our class walked to St. Matthews Church to donate items and learn more about our local food pantry. Mrs. Douglas, a former Voorheesville teacher (of 32 years!), talked to us about all of the ways the food pantry serves the community, gave us a special tour of the pantry, and even let us stock our donations. Special thanks goes out to Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Esposito, Mr. Kirgan, and Mr. Rapp who walked with us this morning and kept us busy when we waited to tour the pantry. Thanks again!! Mission: NUTRITION!
First graders will be coming home with an optional but encouraged Spring Break assignment. Given that we have such a nice, long break and we have been learning about different ways to take care of our bodies, please help and encourage your child to participate in the MISSION: NUTRITION challenge! Daily challenges include things like trying new foods, turning OFF the TV, and packing a healthy snack. Participants will be invited for a special lunch date where we will have a variety of fun fruits and vegetables for them to try! Thanks for your help and support! Coach Vanessa, a local competitive female body builder and friend of Ms. Ritacco, came in today to teach us about different types of physical activity! Our class ran through stations and worked on aerobic, strength, and stretching exercises. It was a lot of fun!
What a wonderful and busy time at the science fair last night! I saw many creative and thought-provoking projects from students past and present,
including our very own First Grade Scientists, Owen and Safia! Owen showed how the reaction between vinegar and baking soda produces enough carbon dioxide to blow up a balloon! He even let my son, Jake, keep a balloon! Wonderful, Owen!! Safia had beautiful images of our Solar System and listed all of it's planets in order. I have no doubt she will be our resident Space Expert when we begin our Solar System research project in late April! Nice work, Safia!! Hi there! My name is Jenna Ritacco and I am the new student teacher in Mrs. Molloy's first grade class! I am currently a senior at The College of Saint Rose dual majoring in Special Education and Childhood Education. Originally, I am from Westchester County but have grown quite fond of this area throughout the past four years and plan to look for a teaching position locally once I graduate in May. I come from a family filled with teachers and I am extremely passionate about nurturing and caring for children. I have been a nanny since the age of 14 and continue to babysit part-time throughout my schooling. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with your children and look forward to all that they will teach me throughout these seven weeks!
These ladies really took our poetry station to a whole new level today! Enjoy! 120 CHART CHALLENGE! Today in math we played a game called "Pass the Paper." Students practiced counting and writing numbers to 120, picking up where another student left off. Their (optional) challenge tonight is to review their 120 chart and complete it, if necessary. If they return the completed 120 chart to me tomorrow, ERROR FREE (no backward numbers, numbers in correct counting order, etc) they will get to choose a reward. I will only honor this challenge TOMORROW! Happy counting! Kindness DOES Count! Help our class reach 100 Acts of Kindness by the 100th Day of School by recording all of the wonderful things your first grader does to help out at home! So far we have 25 acts, 75 more to accomplish by Monday, 2/24! Gingerbread Fred had a great time spending the night with each of our first grade families! You all sent him back to the North Pole with wonderful memories and souvenirs. Thanks for all that you did to ensure he was happy and safe in your homes. Mr. Kirgan was our Mystery Reader last week and we had a great time listening to the stories he brought. Thank you for reading in your best Spanish accent for SkippyJon Jones and wow-ing us with lots of shark facts when you read Fly Guy!
Have a wonderful 3-day weekend! |
